Why I'm doing this
Real Assyrian poetry sounds just as powerful — in every language.
It comes back to a belief that runs through everything I make: that humanity is one shared family. A song in Assyrian is a gift to my people. The same song in English, in French, in Turkish, is that gift handed across the table to everyone else — come, sit, listen, this is who we are.
These songs began, like all my writing, in Assyrian. Carrying them into other languages isn't leaving home; it's opening the door wider. My hope is simple — that a listener who has never heard a word of Assyrian feels something true here, and goes looking for the original.
